Everyone has within them a great wellspring of creativity, all they need are the right tools and encouragement to put it to work for them.

That’s the fundamental message at the foundation of what I do as The Writer Next Door. Find the right tools, explain them, show them as practical and useful rather than theoretical and abstract, then use them. Use the tools over and over, empowering every creative to go farther, do more, make more, and get to where they’d never thought they could go.

Here’s how we do it: We get our hands dirty together. Whether in coaching, through editing, or by writing, we team together to develop and foster the idea you have into the vision you want.

Why do I do this? Because writing, creating, making something that used to only exist in your head come to life on paper or screen doesn’t have to be and shouldn’t be difficult. I have seen too many people with good ideas discouraged by being told that things are supposed to be difficult or that because their ideas weren’t universally perfect, then they shouldn’t pursue them. Too often have I watched people perpetuate a creative model where creative success exists either only in theory or only in the hands of a few people with no interest in ever sharing “the secrets.”

There are no secrets. There should be no ivory towers. Everyone can and should be creative, in their own way. People’s ideas deserve fertile soil and space to bear fruit, be they books on shelves, scripts turned into shows or films, or some other kind of art that will thrive when it finds its audience.

With 17 years (that’s half my life!) experience as a creative writer, speechwriter, marketer, brand developer, editor, and coach, what I do is help other people take their ideas forwards. Upwards. To where they wanted to be, and even beyond that. Get that book finished, get it published. Write that screenplay, be on set the first day of filming. Knock out writer’s block. Shove the creative doubts overboard. Take the idea and make it more.

There are 2 ways we can do this together, which one is right for you?

As your coach we’ll not only put together a comprehensive plan and suite of tools to help you produce great art, but we’ll work together every step of the way through whatever journey you want to take:

  • Idea Generation
  • Character and Plot Development
  • Getting past Writer’s Block
  • Writing and Finishing drafts
  • Querying and Publishing the Manuscript

More information on Coaching can be found right here.

As your editor I will put years of technical expertise to work in making sure the manuscript is in the best shape it can be before it goes forward in its journey. A developmental editor, not only applies the rules of grammar, but also the structures and tenets of storytelling and composition. The end result is a manuscript you can query or self-publish.
